BRIEF: I was asked to design a visual sequence for Thom Yorke's first solo music video, involving a complex post method of faking shallow depth of field on live-action footage by meticulously recreating accurate depth of field with up to 8 layers of hand-animated mattes on 3D planes that travel through the shot at differing depths, to selectively shift focus and simulate real DOF. The technique was later copied heavily, including sequences from the film "The Social Network" and various mobile apps.
